It
is stories that bind us together and for each one of us there are many
stories. When these stories intersect with the stories of others, we
become a part of each other. There is the story of our nation, football
club, school and family. People of faith share the stories of their
faith. And we each have our own unique story, one that is both
enriched by and enriches the stories of which we are a part.
This
is a collection of short stories that have helped create my
story. They are based largely on snippets of events and stories
of which I have been a part or that have been passed down to me by my
parents and others of their and their parent's generations. It can be
no more accurate than our collective memories. In some cases my memory has been
helped by the memories of others and for those memories I am thankful.
At times they will have prodded mine, and at other times the only memory
I have of something is that of another.I
have not attempted to make this an authoritative history. At times the
story may be embellished. It may reflect the myths of the time in which
the story occurred and where I have become aware of the facts they may
not be reflected in the story - although at times the facts may be noted
at the end.
There
are parts of the story I will not tell - either because I do not want
to embarrass others or myself other than mildly. If you find yourself
included in any of these stories and you feel that I have gone further
than I should and there is anything you would like me to delete or
change, please contact me.
My
story would be incomplete if I did not share something of my faith.
While I have tried to arrange these stories in a way that helps you to
find the ones of interest to you, there may be times when the stories
from different parts of my life intersect.
You will also find some reflective pieces and other ramblings that will tell you something about me and the way I think.
Please
feel free to take from this whatever you want if it helps you with your
memories or it is part of the story you want to share with others. My
only request is that you respect intellectual property. You may freely
copy and distribute anything that is mine so long as you do so freely. I
will be upset if I find any of this material being used commercially
without proper acknowledgement.
And
for my family in particular. This is also your story. I leave it to you
in the hope that you will better appreciate your own stories and add to
it for the benefit of your children and theirs.
